Maffeo Sutton Park Nanaimo

Maffeo Sutton Park is downtown Nanaimo's harbour front green space. It is located just beside Swy-a-lana Lagoon Park. Maffeo Sutton Park has just undergone about $600,000.00 in recent upgrades. The park is a cool and shady place to come and sit on a hot summer's day. It also has a large child's playground and stunning ocean views.

One of the nice things about Maffeo Sutton Park are the free concerts that happen here. This is a picture of the Nanaimo Lions Club Pavilion, which is an outdoor stage for music and theatre venues.

A walking and cycling trail surrounds Maffeo Sutton Park.

At one time many years ago, Maffeo Sutton Park was just a vacant lot. But even before that, commercial industry was established there. I found this old concrete footing at the north east corner of Maffeo Sutton Park. Whether it was there before this piece of land was turned into a park, I don't know. But if anyone knows what this was, please leave a comment for me.

Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo is also where you catch the ferry to Newcastle Island. If you ever get to Newcastle Island, be sure to go looking for the elusive albino racoon. They are there. I have seen them myself! Please keep your dogs on a leash when you visit Newcastle Island. The island is loaded with deer and they scare very easily.
